NC State head coach Tom O'Brien hopes NC State fans like these will pack Birmingham's Legion Field to cheer on the 'Pack at the PapaJohns.com Bowl on Dec. 29.
NC State and GoPack.com Staff Reports
NC State has accepted an invitation to play in the third annual Papajohns.com Bowl against Big East opponent Rutgers (7-5 overall, 5-2 in Big East). The game will be played at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., on December 29 at 3 pm EST and will be broadcast by ESPN. The Pack Rally, sponsored by the Alumni Association, is sold out.
"We are honored to have been invited to compete in the Papajohns.com Bowl and feel that it is an excellent way to end an exciting season for NC State," said Wolfpack head coach Tom O'Brien, whose has led nine of his last 10 teams to bowl invitations. "Our football team has worked extremely hard to earn a chance to play in this game."
The game will mark the Wolfpack's 24th bowl appearance and the team has posted an all-time mark of 12-10-1 in bowl competition. Although the Papajohns.com Bowl is only in its third year, NC State did play in a bowl game at Legion Field in 1990, defeating Brett Favre's Southern Miss squad, 31-27, in the All-American Bowl.
"Rutgers is a great opponent and we are very happy that Birmingham is our destination because it will give the Wolfpack nation an opportunity to travel to see us play," O'Brien said. "Our fans' support for the bowl game will be just as important to our team's success as it has been all year long."
If you can't attend the game but would like to help create a new Wolfpack fan in Alabama, treat a member of the Birmingham, Ala., Big Brothers/Big Sisters chapter to a ticket to the Dec. 29 Papajohns.com Bowl game.
