Economic development
forum
to target biomedical opportunities
Wake County Economic Development
(WCED), in partnership with private-sector supporters, will hold the
first NC State Economic Development Forum on Tuesday, May 16, from
noon to 2 p.m. at the College of Textiles
building on Centennial Campus.
The forum is intended to
be
the first in
a series
that will inform the business community and potential partners about
economic development opportunities available on Centennial Biomedical
Campus (CBC), specifically, biomedical opportunities with the College
of Veterinary Medicine. The forum is also an opportunity for WCED
and NC State to gain valuable insight from key firms and partners about
the
development of CBC and other facets of an advanced medical care cluster.
The event will be a luncheon forum with a keynote address given by Steve
Scherger, vice president of productivity for MeadWestvaco. The forum
will also include members of the economic development community along
with business, government and academic leaders, and national real
estate developers.
Dr. John Gilligan, vice chancellor
for research and graduate studies, will moderate the session titled “NC State’s Contributions
to Regional Competitiveness.” The session will feature brief presentations
on the Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center, the Nonwovens
Cooperative Research Center, Red Hat’s Centennial Campus headquarters
and the Centennial Biomedical Campus. These four topics were selected
because they are an example of government-business-university partnerships
on Centennial Campus and the Centennial Biomedical Campus.

Morris, director
of NC State’s Economic Development Partnership, at 513-0388.
