Oblinger |
The award, established in 1961, is the highest honor Iowa State gives through its alumni association. The award honors Iowa State alumni “who are nationally and/or internationally recognized for pre-eminent contributions to their profession or life’s work.”
Joining Oblinger in receiving the award were Lauro Cavazos, former U.S. Secretary of Education under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush; Luis Ernesto Derbez Bautista, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs; and Deborah Diersen-Schade, a research fellow for Mead Johnson who many experts credit with “the most significant innovation in infant formula composition in several decades.”
Oblinger earned his master’s degree and his doctorate, both in food technology, from Iowa State in 1970 and 1972, respectively.
