presented
DATLE award
The Department of Mathematics has been selected as the winner of the
2006 Departmental Award for Teaching and Learning Excellence (DATLE).
As part of its award, the department will receive a check
for $5,000 and a recurring addition of $15,000 to its base funding, beginning
next fiscal year. The funding will be used to support teaching and learning
excellence.
The DATLE award was established to recognize and reward outstanding
accomplishment by departments in teaching and learning. To win the award,
a department must
demonstrate notable excellence in undergraduate, graduate, or professional teaching,
with wide involvement from faculty, staff and students. Additional emphasis is
placed on recognizing the synergistic advantage for undergraduate education of
the research and extension capabilities, interests, and programs of the faculty.
The
Provost’s Office selected the winner based on the recommendations
of an ad hoc committee. That committee was appointed from members and
recommendations
of the University Standing Committee on the Evaluation of Teaching, the Executive
Committee of the Academy of Outstanding Teachers, the Faculty Senate, the Student
Senate and the Staff Senate.
