Dr.
Jerry Barker,
Student Health Services, received the Charles F. Bohmann Award during
the annual meeting of the Southern College Health Association.
Dr. Linda P. Brady, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, was appointed to the U.S. Army War College Board of Visitors and will serve until March 2004. Dr. Jon A. Brandt, head of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, has been chosen president-elect of the American Agricultural Economics Association. He will become president of the organization in 2003. Dr. Karen R. Dawkins, math, science and technology education, was installed as President of the North Carolina Science Education Leadership Association. Dr. MaryAnne Drake, food science, served as a judge for the World Cheese Championships in Madison, Wis. National and international experts on cheese flavor and quality were chosen to judge. The contest has been hosted every two years since 1957 by the Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association. Dr. Thomas Gerig, statistics, will serve as assistant director for university affiliates with the National Institute of Statistical Sciences in RTP beginning this fall. Dr. James Guy, veterinary medicine, received the Distinguished Alumni Award for non-private practice from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Tennessee in 1980 and his Ph.D. in 1984. Crystal L. Hardison and Plato L. Smith, NCSU Libraries, have been invited to participate in the Training Institute for Early Career Librarians From Traditionally Underrepresented Groups, which will be held Sept. 28 through Oct. 3 at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Matt Holt, agricultural and resource economics, received the Publication of Enduring Quality Award from the American Agricultural Economics Association for a paper he co-authored. Claire Kane, transportation, has been appointed to a two-year term on the Wake County Transportation Advisory Board. Ralph Kaplan, NCSU Libraries, will receive the Al Maresh Memorial Award this month at the international conference of the Correctional Education Association in Portland, Ore., in recognition of his Web-based work for the organization. Dr. Kathryn M. Moore, dean of the College of Education, was inducted into the Ohio State University College of Education Hall of Fame. She received her bachelor's degree in English and history and her master's degree in higher education from Ohio State in 1965 and 1966, respectively. Dr. V. Kerry Smith, agricultural and resource economics, was named an association fellow by the American Agricultural Economics Association, the organization's most prestigious award. Dr. Ron Tzur, mathematics, science and technology education, was elected to a four-year term on the international committee of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME).
