Fifty-four of NC State’s finest found a new home July 30.
NC State University Police began operating from a new police department at the end of July. The new building, named the Public Safety Center, is located at 1140 Varsity Drive and is also home to Fire Protection Services. The building is directly behind the George Worsley Administrative Services Complex and adjacent to the Environmental Health and Safety Center. It can be accessed from Sullivan Drive. “When you consider Centennial Campus and the College of Veterinary Medicine, our new location is more centrally located for the entire campus community,” said Sgt. Jon Barnwell, crime prevention/media relations communicator. Along with the same resources that were available to faculty, staff and students at the old location, Riddick Stadium Field House, Campus Police has also added a resource officer to handle walk-in reports and information requests in the new building. The emergency dispatch center will remain at the department’s old location for a short time during the transition period to the new building, but will eventually also be housed at the Varsity Drive ocation. Until the move, the new building will not be manned after business hours. A courtesy phone will be located in the lobby to call an officer for support after business hours. Though the office has moved, all contact numbers will remain the same. For life-safety emergencies, the campus community can call 515-3333 or for general information, 515-3000. Campus Police has advertised the move to the new location through Technician, the building liaison listing and the department’s Web site. “The new location is important because of life-safety issues,” Barnwell said. “We don’t want people in an emergency to go our old location only to be redirected to where we are now.” Posted August 6, 2004 |
