New computer system gives gym patrons
easier access to facilities, equipment

Getting your workout in will get even easier this fall, as Carmichael Gymnasium is rolling out a new computerized system that will simplify processes like equipment checkout and gym membership purchases.

Heather Seal, a senior political science and philosophy major from Charlotte, uses the new RecTrac electronic management system to scan a patron’s All Campus card at the entrance to Carmichael Gym.

RecTrac is an electronic management system that allows membership and equipment tracking all in one place. Gym members will be able to purchase guest passes at the entrance to the gym if they arrive after regular office hours. Equipment and clothing checkout and facility reservations can all be done at the desks as well.

Previously, household members who wanted to purchase Carmichael memberships had to go to the office to fill out a card and then over to the All Campus office to get an ID made. RecTrac will enable these members to have their gym membership IDs created on site. In addition, memberships will expire one year from the date of purchase, not at the beginning of the fall semester as they do now.

The program is in its final testing and troubleshooting phase, and it will be completely functional at the beginning of the fall semester. Current members and students have already been rolled in, but Carmichael management is asking that all faculty/staff payroll deduction members fill out an updated membership information form.

“We believe that RecTrac will make gym memberships more user-friendly, as well as cut down on the informational discrepancies we’ve had in the past” said Dawn Sanner, director of Carmichael Gymnasium.
