Willis |
As chair-elect, Willis will work closely with incoming chair J.C. Boykin to better understand the responsibility she will undertake when she becomes chair in 2007-08.
“I am so excited about being selected by my peers as chair-elect,” said Willis, who has worked at NC State for four years and in state government for 25 years. “I believe all of us can work together as a team to represent the staff senate and our constituents. It’s all about teamwork and communication. I know we will do an excellent job at that this year as in the past.”
Also elected to leadership posts for 2006-07:
• Debbie Hunt, an administrative officer in the Office of Research Administration, was elected vice-chair. She has served as a staff senator since 2003.
• Tom Hunter, Office of the University Architect, was elected parliamentarian. This will be Hunter’s second term with Staff Senate. He has worked at NC State for 12 years.
• Laura Massengill, an administrative assistant in the Department of Crop Science, was elected secretary. She has previously served as chair, chair-elect and secretary. She has worked at the university since 1987.
Incoming chair J.C. Boykin says that what is expected to be a very busy senate year is starting with several major undertakings.
“We are drafting changes to our by-laws to reflect that we will soon begin to provide Staff Senate representation to non-teaching EPA professionals,” said Boykin, who has worked at NC State since 1992. “We are also pleased that President Erskine Bowles has promoted the organization of a Staff Assembly for the member institutions and we are preparing an election protocol for delegates to that assembly.”
Boykin also presented Watkins with a plaque recognizing her service to the university as chair.
“To serve as chair was one of the greatest honors and privileges I have had while employed at NC State,” Watkins said. “I’m glad I had the opportunity to serve the staff of the university through this position and to work with such a wonderfully supportive group of administrators, from the Board of Trustees, chancellor and provost down through deans, directors and department heads.”
