NC State: Achieve!
campaign debuts

NC State achieve! logoNC State is a community of achievers. That's the message of a new marketing campaign for the university that will be launched in the coming weeks. The first glimpse of the effort — a display that showcases people at NC State who embody achievement — was unveiled to campus employees on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Employee Appreciation Day and Benefits Fair in Reynolds Coliseum.

The marketing effort, "NC State: Achieve!" was developed by the Office of Public Affairs to capture the character that defines our university and sets it apart from other institutions. The project will use public relations, advertising, publications, events, the Web, word-of-mouth and other promotional vehicles to communicate NC State's passion for achieving results that make a difference to our various audiences such as alumni, partners, legislators, and current and prospective faculty, staff and students.

According to Debbie Griffith, associate vice chancellor for public affairs, this is the first coordinated marketing effort that NC State has launched based on positioning research across the campus, input and advice from college-based communications staff and the advice of professional marketing firms.

"When you have a university that is as diverse as NC State, it's a particular challenge to develop a marketing campaign that is inclusive and yet distinctive. We think the tagline "NC State: Achieve!" is a way to quickly capture NC State's mission. It's our promise and our rallying cry. Used in ads, publications and other promotions, it allows us to amplify and elaborate on all the ways NC State makes an impact," Griffith said.

Employees can learn more about "Achieve!" by visiting the new Web site at http://achieve.ncsu.edu.

The "Achieve!" theme was developed after nearly 100 interviews with faculty, staff, alumni, students and partners.

"We asked them what sets NC State apart, and what do we want NC State to represent in the future. The overwhelming answer was our passion for results and achievement," Griffith said.

Among the key messages the campaign will communicate are:

  • NC State develops leaders for the future by educating for 21st century life and work.
  • NC State applies research discoveries to ensure good health, productivity, security and quality of life.
  • NC State fosters partnerships with businesses, communities, industry and government.
  • NC State celebrates our traditions, our spirit of collaboration and our diverse strengths.
