SECC begins with $475,000 goal

NC State kicked off the annual State Employees Combined Campaign on Sept. 6 in hopes of raising $475,000 for charities in North Carolina and beyond.

Dr. Carol Pope, College of Education, is serving as chair of the university effort and Dr. Steve Washburn, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is serving as vice-chair. Campaign coordinators have been named for units throughout the university, and have begun contacting university employees to provide information about the campaign and pledge forms.

Once again, employees may designate how their gift is used. This year’s campaign booklet contains more than 1,000 different charitable organizations to which donations may be made. Of course, donations are tax and payroll deductible.

Contributors may also give to the NC State University Family Scholarship Fund, which provides need-based scholarships to full-time NC State undergraduate students whose parents are full-time university employees.

The State Employees Combined Campaign is run primarily by volunteers, which means it is particularly efficient. Fundraising costs are held to a minimum; overhead costs are about 15 percent. Campaign charities are also efficient; no more than 25 percent of campaign charity funds may go to administration and fundraising.

In addition to the satisfaction of doing a good deed, some employees who make donations will see other rewards in the form of prizes. Prizes will be given out weekly, and include tickets to NC State football and basketball games; clothing and memorabilia; and gift certificates to the NCSU Bookstores and area merchants. Everyone who contributes by Oct. 6 will be eligible for the final prize drawing, which includes the grand prize of a free one-year premium parking pass.
