Center Stage opens its 30th season

NC State's Center Stage performing arts series kicks off its 30-year anniversary tonight (Oct. 18) with the return performance of a critically acclaimed jazz performer.

Saxophonist Joshua Redman first came to NC State in 1996 and packed the auditorium in Stewart Theatre. Since then, he has become one of the most dynamic, articulate and compelling performers on the scene by attracting audiences from all musical backgrounds. The concert will also feature two other premier jazz performers in drummer Brian Blade and keyboardist Sam Yahel.

The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on the stage in Stewart Theatre. Tickets for the event are $30 for reserved seating. General admission prices are $25 for the general public, $20 for senior citizens and NC State faculty/staff, $15 for children under 12 and students, and $9 for NC State students. Groups of 10 or more can purchase general admission tickets for $20 each.

The 30th anniversary of Center Stage will feature performances throughout the year, including the puppetry of Teatro Hugo & Ines Short Stories, the dancing of Rennie Harris Puremovement and a return engagement of the drama troupe Shenandoah Shakespeare Express.

"As one of America's top research universities and a land grant institution, NC State is dedicated to educating creative leaders for a changing global environment while actively engaging with our state and community," said Sharon H. Moore, director of Center Stage. "At Center Stage, we work to demonstrate that the arts serve a valuable role in fulfilling both those objectives."

Center Stage offers a "Create Your Own Series" discount in which patrons can purchase tickets to four or more performances for a 20 percent discount on reserve and general admission seating.
