Parking spots drop by 350
as construction begins

While work to expand the parking on main campus begins, commuters may have to find alternate parking space in the Reynolds Coliseum area.

Construction began Monday (Oct. 14) on the expansion of the Coliseum Parking Deck, located between Reynolds Coliseum and Thompson Theatre. The project, which is expected to take about a year, will add 730 new deck spaces as well as 150 new pay lot spaces.

Construction plans include placing a new parking deck where the current surface parking lot is located. The existing deck and pay lot (located on the deck's first level) will remain open and in use during the construction, and a travel path will be available for vehicles to access the pay lot. The surface lot and its 350 spaces will be lost for the duration of the construction.

To compensate for the loss of parking, permanent faculty and staff with "C1" permits are encouraged to park in a "C" zone, or upgrade to the "BP" zone — which is located on Jeter Drive next to Reynolds Coliseum. The Transportation Department will offer 100 "BP" upgrades on a first come, first serve basis. Those interested in upgrading their permit can return their current "DC" or "C" permit to the transportation office in order to receive a "BP" permit.

Parking is expected to become limited in the "DC" zone, which will force "C" and "DC" permit holders into the "D" overflow lot, located off of Sullivan Drive.
