The Science House Web site reached a milestone recently when it was announced that the site averages more than 1,000 visits per day. "It's a valuable resource in the classroom," said Beth Snoke, student program coordinator for Science House, whose duties also include maintaining the Science House Web page. "There's definitely a need and demand for what we do." The Science House Web page underwent a major redesign about two months ago, which Snoke believes contributed to the increased traffic. Another factor in the Web page's popularity are some new features. They include Countertop Chemistry, activities using chemicals you can find at grocery or hardware stores; the Middle School Physical Science Resource Center, which provides teachers with tools they need to be effective and critical educators; and the K-12 Outreach Directory, which provides teachers with information about K-12 science, engineering and technology resources located all over the NC State campus. The Science House is a learning outreach project of NC State, with a mission of working in partnership with K-12 teachers to increase the use and impact of hands-on learning technologies in mathematics and science. Through
school demonstration programs, student science camps, teacher workshops
and innovative laboratory training and support projects, The Science
House annually reaches over 3,000 teachers and 20,000 students in more
than 60 North Carolina counties and six other states.
