Art and Design
master's available
A new master’s degree
program in art and design being offered through the College of Design
could redefine the concept and creation
of everyday items ranging from clothing to video games
and accessories to advertisements.
The program is the only one of its kind in
the University of North Carolina System and offers concentrations in
fibers and in animation. It blends traditional techniques
of art and design with digital technologies, with the goal of preparing artists
and designers to work in emerging, high-tech art and design-related industries.
The
fibers and surface design concentration combines the use of new technology
with traditional hand textile production processes for art textiles and for
the design of fiber products such as clothing, home or personal accessories,
crafts,
sculptures, or other works of art. Students enrolled in the animation and
digital imaging concentration will use state-of-the-art software and
equipment to enhance
graphics, digital images, and 3-D animations used in applications such as
advertisements, films, Web sites and video games.
Students who enroll
in the program must complete 48-72 hours of coursework, depending on
the background of the applicant. The program also requires students
to complete
a final project that is showcased in a public exhibition. For more information,
visit www.ncsu.edu/design or contact program director Susan Brandeis at
515-3876.
