Have a great
idea?
Click the 'YES' button
When he became provost, Dr.
Larry Nielsen promised to create a “culture
of yes” at NC State. Now he’s
using his Web site as a way for the university community to contribute suggestions
and solutions directly to his office – via the YES button.
According to
Nielsen, the culture of yes “requires us to think big and
act big; to risk a little and admit when we were wrong, and to give ideas a
chance rather than expect them to be sure things at the outset.”
To help
faculty, staff and students share their “big ideas,” or even
small ones, with administrators, Nielsen created the YES button as a virtual
suggestion box. Visitors to the provost’s home page will notice a big
red button marked YES, which stands for “your effectiveness and efficiency
suggestions.” Clicking on the button brings up a login screen and then
a form where the visitor is asked to describe not only a problem or issue,
but also a suggested solution to the problem.
“I believe that each individual within the NC State community
has ideas that matter, and that can help us create a great future for
the university,” Nielsen
said. “The YES button is a simple way to start a dialogue about where
we as an institution want to go and how to get there.”
To submit a
suggestion, go to www.ncsu.edu/provost and click on the YES button. Participants
must have a valid Unity ID to log in.
