"BP" parking permit holders
will get refund, lower costs

University employees who hold "BP" parking permits will find an early Christmas present in their December pay checks.

At its November meeting, the university's Board of Trustees provided final approval to an NC State Department of Transportation plan to reduce the annual cost of the "BP" permit from $327 to $300.

As part of the reduction, all "BP" permit holders will receive a retroactive refund for the past four months. December pay checks for "BP" holders will reflect the appropriate refund and the price change. The change will impact 513 current "BP" permit holders.

Transportation officials made the decision to ask for a price reduction after some permit holders expressed their concern with the pricing at a public meeting over the summer. Those concerns were based on the fact that "BP" holders were being charged at the same rate as "B" permit holders, but did not have the same flexibility in parking options as "B" permit holders. The new "BP" rate of $300 is now priced in-between the "B" and the "C" permit ($275).

The three major "BP" lots are located at Hillsborough Square (behind Darryl's restaurant), North Hall and Jeter Drive (beside Reynolds Coliseum. A total of 517 spaces on campus are designated as "BP."
