Adults over 50 may now register for the Encore Center's spring 2003 courses, special events and study trips, which run from Jan. 21 to April 25. Located at NC State's McKimmon Center for Extension and Continuing Education, the Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment provides a variety of non-credit programs for older adults. A total of 35 six-week classes are scheduled, including first-time offerings on Benjamin Franklin, Florence in the 15th Century, John Locke's Legacy, the History of Jazz, Space Exploration, World Religions, Long-term Caregiving, and Poetry Writing. Returning favorites include Great Decisions, AARP Safe Driving, Leonardo da Vinci, and a Walk through Art History at the North Carolina Museum of Art. Three computer courses will be taught: Computer Basics for Seniors, Introduction to the Internet for Seniors, and Using Computers as a Genealogical Tool. Special events and trips include a Tennessee literature study trip, Carolina Hurricanes hockey "primer" and game, North Carolina Symphony rehearsal series, CPR practicum and "The Mikado" theatre excursion. Encore's membership fee from January through August 2003 is $30, and includes twice-monthly lectures and NC State benefits such as library privileges and discounts on campus cultural events.
