The Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment, which offers a variety of non-credit programs for adults aged 50 and older, has begun registration for its 2004 courses, trips and events. Thirty-eight short courses are scheduled, including new offerings on “Madrid through the Ages,” “The Civil War Leadership of Abraham Lincoln,” “The Global Politics of Energy,” “The Vietnam War,” and the “Ancient Celts and Their Legacy.” Returning favorites include the “Great Decisions” foreign policy discussion group and “Computer Basics for Seniors.” A course on art history will be offered at the N.C. Museum of Art, while another off-site class will explore the native plants of the Triangle. Special events and trips include a January study trip to Alabama, a hockey introduction session and Hurricanes game, and theatre, movie, and symphony day trips. Encore’s membership fee from January through August 2004 is $30, and includes NC State benefits such as library privileges and discounts on campus cultural events. Six-week courses are $40 each, lectures are free with membership, and trip and event prices vary. For details, call 919/515-5782 for a free catalog or visit Encore on the Web.
