Gen. Hugh Shelton, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, speaks at the 2003 leadership forum bearing his name. This year’s General Henry Hugh Shelton Leadership Forum, to be held Friday, Nov. 19 at the McKimmon Center, will focus on exemplary leadership.

Practical applications for exemplary leadership will be the focus of the third annual General Henry Hugh Shelton Leadership Forum on Friday, Nov. 19 at the McKimmon Center.

Forum attendees will learn how they can enhance their leadership skills through practical applications from more than 30 dynamic speakers, including Gen. Shelton, in sessions that will provide a variety of insights and opportunities for discussion.

In addition to Shelton, featured speakers include:
• Keynote speaker Jim Kouzes, co-author of “The Leadership Challenge” and “Academic Administrator’s Guide to Exemplary Leadership”
• Connie Stevens, actress and entrepreneur
• August Busch IV, president, Anheuser-Busch Inc.

Participants will receive a free Leadership Practices Inventory Survey so they can apply personal applications to the five practices of effective leadership Kouzes will talk about during the keynote address.

The cost of the forum is $159, and includes lunch.

“The 2004 Shelton Forum will provide leaders in the corporate, government and educational sectors a professional development experience with experts who are leading the way, innovatively incorporating exemplary leadership into practice,” Shelton said. “It is rare to have this number of role-model leaders collectively in one setting to share his or her knowledge and expertise. The Shelton Leadership Forum is intentionally designed to enhance the values-based leadership skills of executives representing many professions.”

The forum is an offering of the General Henry Hugh Shelton Leadership Initiative. For more information, visit www.ncsu.edu/sheltonleadership.
