Wireless hotspots put to vote
In this election season, the Department of Communication Technologies (ComTech) is giving members of the campus community a voice in where they would like to see wireless computing access made available on campus.
As part of a new Web site launched Nov. 1 by ComTech, students, faculty and staff can visit http://wireless.ncsu.edu and vote for a hotspot, or area of wireless computing access. One hotspot per month will be selected based on voting at the Web site.
The new site consolidates all of the current campus wireless information into one location and aims to enhance the wireless user’s computing experience at NC State. The site includes campus wireless coverage maps, information on how wireless technology works, answers to frequently asked questions and places to submit feedback. The site will also be used to communicate ComTech’s progress in the deployment of wireless access across campus.
“We are excited and optimistic about our current deployment plan and believe it will bring great benefit to the campus community,” said Greg Sparks, interim director of ComTech.
