Friday Receives Menscer Cup

William C. Friday (center) was presented the 2003 Menscer Cup by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and Darrell Menscer recently at a ceremony sponsored by the NC State Foundation. Friday, president emeritus of the University of North Carolina system and an alumnus of NC State, has been called “one of the most significant North Carolinians of the 20th century.” He served as president of the UNC system from 1956 until his retirement in 1986. The Menscer Cup is given annually in honor of Menscer and his wife Carolyn, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., for “exemplary leadership of advancement efforts” at the university.
