African American Read-In

Kick off Black History Month 2010 through literacy. This year the African American Cultural Center, the Xi Zeta Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, and the UAB Issues and Ideas Committee are teaming up to host our very own African American Read-In event. In celebration of Black History Month, of President Barack Obama’s term in office, and of the 21st National African American Read-In, we will be discussing President Obama’s The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream. The event will be held on Tuesday, February 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Washington Sankofa Room of Witherspoon Student Center.

L.M. Clark Lecture

Dr. Lawrence M. Clark is a former associate provost and retired professor of mathematics education at North Carolina State University.

A native of Danville, Va., Clark joined the faculty at NC State in 1974 and was instrumental as an advocate for issues relating to race and diversity during his 20-year tenure at the university. He created the chancellor’s African-American Community Advisory Council and helped found the African-American Cultural Center. NC State’s annual L.M. Clark Lecture is named in his honor. Clark continues to serve the university as a volunteer mentor, consultant and advisor for several of the student success programs he created.

SPACE

Due to the impending and declining weather conditions forecasted for the area we have decided to cancel SPACE this Saturday, February 13, 2010. We will resume our original program on February 20, 2010. Take care and thank you.

SPACE is an academic program designed for 6th through 8th grade students from Wake County and surrounding school districts. The program provides interactive learning and cultural activities in writing, math, science, social studies and technology throughout the academic year.
