About the Artist: Richard Wilson
Richard Wilson hails from Robersonville, NC, where he grew up drawing. He honed his artistic skills under his father’s guidance. His passion for art and design continued into his high school and college experiences. He studied Communications Art at Barton College and received a degree in Advertising and Graphic Design from Pitt Community College.
Wilson is rests comfortably among a host of African American “firsts,” having been “the first African American artist to have a portrait painting hang in any North Carolina courthouse” in 2005. His painting was of George Henry White.
His mastery of pastels in paintings has gained him renown in his field, and his highly developed talent at such a young age has surprised many. Among his many accomplishments is his Signature membership in the Pastel Society of America.
