Cultural Event

Heritage Day

Date of Event: October 24, 2009

The AACC and African American student groups will host morning workshops and activities that include Sankofa theatre, African dance, step-team choreography, modeling poise, and gospel choir techniques. Other activities include storytelling, face painting, jewelry making, and mask making. A showcase celebration will be presented in the afternoon.

Pre-registration is required for all workshops. Continue the cultural celebration and join us later this evening at 8PM in the newly renovated Thompson Hall’s Titmus Theatre for Charles Randolph-Wright’s production, BLUE! The story of a prominent South Carolina African American family, Blue promises an evening of music, humor, and unraveling dysfunction directed by Ron Foreman and starring Dr. Patricia Caple. Tickets for this event are available at NCSU Ticket Central.

Heritage Day is an annual event organized by the African American Cultural Center and the Heritage Society. The purpose of Heritage Day is to uplift African American youth by instilling in them a sense of cultural pride and encouraging them to pursue higher education. Youth from surrounding communities unite with college students and staff to celebrate their African roots through a wide range of engaging activities.
