Shoeboxes of Love

Date of Event: December 09, 2008

Purpose

The purpose of the African American Cultural Center’s Shoeboxes of Love is to bless children in the local Raleigh area and surrounding communities with gifts filled with fun and functional play items and necessities. The AACC and the Heritage Society encourage NC State students, faculty and staff to donate items to be placed in shoeboxes for small and teenage youth. Or, volunteers may bring pre-wrapped and packed shoeboxes to our designated drop-off location.

Shoeboxes of Love 2008

This year, as part of African Awareness Week, the African Student Union has teamed up with the AACC and the Heritage Society to help service the community. On Saturday, November 15, ASU and the AACC will be wrapping shoeboxes from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the African American Cultural Center. Volunteers are highly encourage to attend. If you miss this event, no worries. The AACC and the Heritage Society will be preparing shoeboxes until December 19.

This is a great opportunity for Resident Advisors, as well. This year, we are recommending Resident Advisors to use Shoeboxes of Love as a program. Encourage your residents to pile up boxes and bags with useful and fun items for children in need. If you are an RA, and would like to implement this community service project as a program, please contact Mrs. Toni Thorpe or any member of the Heritage Society.
