Dr. Randy Woodson, North Carolina State University's 14th chancellor, began a series of visits across the globe to learn more about the university's role and reach and reaffirm the university's commitment to meeting the world's needs.

Chancellor's Asia Visits

Overview

From Oct. 15-25, Chancellor Woodson is touring east Asia. During stops in China and South Korea, he will meet with leaders in higher education, government and industry to explore partnerships that will solidify NC State's presence in the region.

Tour Visits

Hong Kong, China

Chancellor Woodson’s first stop was Hong Kong, where he signed a memorandum of understanding with Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The agreement strengthens cooperation between the universities, encouraging faculty research collaboration, faculty exchanges, training and research experiences for graduate students.

Woodson also met with NC State alumni and supporters in Hong Kong, including Vincent Fang, an NC State graduate and member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council, and members of the Sung family. In all, seven members of the Sung family have attended NC State.

Shanghai Pu Dong, China

In Shanghai, Chancellor Woodson spent time with several alumni. Among them were Hua Li and Changsheng Lu, who are among the top officials overseeing Asian operations for North Carolina-based textile manufacturer Glen Raven. Other alumni who met with Woodson included Henry Sun, general manager of Nissei Well Print in Shanghai, and James Arnold, who endowed a summer study program in China for NC State students.

Hangzhou, China

In Hangzhou, Chancellor Woodson met with leaders from Zhejiang University, the number-three university in China. Woodson and Zhejiang Vice President Wu Ping renewed agreements supporting academic and research collaboration between the universities. Woodson also met with students from the universities' 3+X program, which allows Zhejiang students to finish work on accelerated graduate degrees at NC State.
