Call for Nominations
It is that time of year when we seek nominations for the Watauga Medal, the highest non-academic honor awarded by the university. I encourage you to make one or more nominations to recognize "unusually distinguished service to North Carolina State University." Please note the deadline for all nominations is 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 4.
The Watauga Medal, authorized by the NC State Board of Trustees in 1975, is awarded annually to no more than three persons not currently employed by the university, who have rendered notable and significant services for the advancement of teaching, research and extension functions of the university. The medal, or medals, will be presented at the Founders' Day Dinner on March 8, 2010. Last year's award recipients were J. Lawrence Apple, E. Norris Tolson, and C. Richard Vaughn.
Nominations will be screened by the Watauga Medal Selection Committee, which will forward recommendations to the chancellor and Board of Trustees. Nominations should provide members of the committee a full understanding of your nominee's achievements and contributions to NC State.
Please note that the nomination process has been standardized. A complete nomination will include a transmittal letter, nomination form, and the nominee's resume. Two additional letters supporting the nomination are encouraged.
Nominations for the 2008 and 2009 Watauga Medals are automatically carried forward for the 2010 medal and, therefore, do not need to be resubmitted. You can find links to the nomination form and more information on the selection criteria here.
