The Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management Department offers students in the School of Design opportunity to take a minor in either Apparel Technology or Textile Technology. These minors benefit students from the School of Design allowing them to explore design principles using textile and apparel mediums. Students also have opportunity to use state-of-the-art computer aided design systems as part of the minor.

Requirements

The Apparel Technology Minor consists of 15 hours or 5 classes. Students must take the following 4 required courses and 2 elective courses from the electives list. A grade of 'C' or better is required in all courses used toward the minor.

Required Courses (9 hours)

TMS 211 Introduction to Fiber Science 3 cr. (Preqs. TT105*, MA 131 or MA 141)
TAM 218 Introduction to Apparel Technology Management 3 cr. (Preqs. TT 105*)
TT 251 Woven Fabric Technology 1 3cr.

Elective Courses (6 hours - Choose from the following)

TAM 315 Apparel Production I 3 cr. (Preqs. TAM 218)
TAM 316 Apparel Production II 3 cr. (Preqs. TAM 315)
TAM 415 Apparel Product Development 3 cr. (Preqs. TAM 218, TAM 315, TAM 316)

Note * The prerequisite TT 105 will be waived for School of Design Students who are at least of sophomore standing.

Admissions and Certification of Minor

In both instances, students should contact Cindy Istook. The minor must be completed no later than the semester in which the student expects to graduate from his or her degree program. Paperwork for certification can be found in the Dean's Office and should be completed no later than during the registration period for the student's final semester at NC State.
