Business Administration Minor

Description
Students who fulfill the requirements for the undergraduate Minor in Business Administration will gain an understanding of the language and basic concepts of business. Students will have an understanding of the fundamentals of economics, financial accounting, and three or more business disciplines (finance, human resource management, information systems management, marketing, operations management) chosen by the student.

Requirements (effective Fall 2006)

  • The Minor in Business Administration requires completion of 18 credit hours.
  • Undergraduate Accounting (ACC) majors are not eligible for this minor.
  • Students must earn at least a 2.0 GPA in their Business Minor coursework to be certified for a Minor.
  • Students may not take Minor coursework on a credit only (pass/fail) basis.
  • No more than six (6) hours of transfer credit can be counted toward minor requirements.
  • The Office of Undergraduate Programs must approve any transfer credits taken toward the minor.

Required Courses (9 credit hours) *

MIE201 - Introduction to Business Processes (3 cr) (Previously BUS 201)
EC 205 (C- or better) - Fundamentals of Economics ** (3 cr)
ACC 210 (C- or better) - Concepts of Financial Reporting (3 cr)

* ABM and TXM majors may count up to 6 hours of credit used to meet their major requirements.
** EC 205 may be replaced by (EC 201 or ARE 201 with C- or better) PLUS EC 202.

Elective Courses (9 credit hours)

Choose any three (3) of the following core concentration courses:

Admissions and Certification of Minor

Admissions
Admission to the minor is competitive. Any non-BUS major (except ACC majors) may apply after successfully completing 30 semester hours of coursework toward his or her degree including 15 semester hours at NC State. Applicants must complete the Business Administration minor application form and submit it to the Office of Undergraduate Programs, 2150 Nelson Hall, along with an up-to-date transcript. Normally, application will occur in a student's sophomore year. At the latest, the application must be submitted before the student's last semester on campus. Once admitted to the minor, students will be eligible for all courses required for the minor on the same basis as if they were majors. Application Deadlines: Sept. 15, Feb. 15, June 1

Certification
Students must earn at least a 2.0 GPA in their Minor coursework to be certified for a minor. Students may not take Minor coursework on a credit only (pass/fail) basis. No more than six (6) hours of transfer credit can be counted toward minor requirements. The Office of Undergraduate Programs, 2150 Nelson Hall must approve any transfer credits taken toward the minor. The minor must be completed no later than the semester in which the student expects to graduate from his or her degree program. Paperwork for certification can be found in the 2150 Nelson Hall and should be completed during the registration period of the student's final semester at NC State.
