The Entrepreneurship Minor is no longer available for new student effective June 2009.

Students who have taken two or more courses toward the Minor in Entrepreneurship prior to June 2009 will be allowed to complete the Minor by working with faculty to find a suitable plan of coursework through May 2011.

Description

The Department of Business Management offeres an undergraduate Minor in Entrepreneurship to all undergraduate majors outside the departments of Business Management and Accounting. The Minor in Enterpreneurship helps students become entrepreneurial thinkers and provides them with an understanding of management principles applied in the unique environment faced by the founders of new business ventures. Students will be well grounded in the business planning process and in the process of launching a new venture. Many of the skills and principles that students master also apply to management teams launching new ventures from within existing companies. Experiential learning and interaction with the entrepreneurial business community are important elements of the courses in the Minor.

Requirements

  • Requires a minimum of 15 hours comprised of 5 required courses.
  • All courses must be completed with a grade of 'C-' or higher.
  • Open to any undergraduate student except those majoring in Business Management or Accounting.
  • MIE 310 and MIE 311 are prerequisites of the 400 level courses listed below; MIE 412 and MIE 413 are prerequisites of MIE 419.
  • Students must have at least sophomore standing to be admitted into MIE 310 and MIE 311.
  • no more than six hours of transfer credit can be counted toward minor requirements. Transfer credit must be approved by the Undergraduate Programs Office in 2150 Nelson.

MIE 310 Introduction to Entrepreneurship (3 cr)
MIE 311 Entrepreneurship Skills (3 cr)
MIE 412 Finance and Accounting for Entrepreneurs (3 cr)
MIE 413 New Venture Planning (3 cr)
MIE 418 Social Entrepreneurship Practicum (3 cr) OR MIE 419 Entrepreneurship Practicum

Admissions and Certification of the Minor:

Admission to the Minor in Entrepreneurship is competitive, and students officially admitted to the Minor will receive priority in registration for all courses in the Minor. Any non-BUS major other than ACC majors with sophomore standing may apply for admission. Applicants must complete the Minor in Entrepreneurship application and submit to the Office of Academic Affairs, 2100 B Nelson Hall, along with an up-to-date transcript.
