Description

The Department of Marine, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences offers a minor in Geology to majors in any field except geology. This program provides a means of recognition for students in any field who have a curiosity about the materials, structures and processes of the solid earth.

Requirements

  • At least 15 hours (5 courses )of geology or geophysical coursework which must include MEA 101, MEA 110 and two additional laboratory courses.
  • Of the 5 courses, at least two must have labs.
  • A grade of 'C' or better in at all course work used toward minor.

Admissions and Certification of Minor

Admissions
Admission into this minor program requires a grade of 'C' or better in MEA 101 and MEA 110. To officially enroll in the Minor program, students should see Dr Edward Stoddard., 2140 Jordan Hall, 919.515.7939, skip_stoddard@ncsu.edu. Dr. Stoddard will provide the student with the name of a geology faculty member who will act as the adviser for the student's minor program.

Certification
Students should see Dr. Stoddard for certification of the minor, 2140 Jordan Hall. The minor must be completed no later than the semester in which the student expects to graduate from his or her degree program. Paperwork for certification should be completed no later than during the registration period for the student's final semester at NC State.
