Description
The Department of Mathematics offers a minor in Mathematics
to majors in any field except Mathematics.
Requirements
Prerequisite to the Mathematics minor:
Students must complete one (1) of the two (2) basic calculus sequences,
as shown below, with a grade of 'C' or better in each course.
- MA 141 Calculus I
- MA 241 Calculus II
- MA 242 Calculus III
OR
- MA 131 Calculus for Life and Management Sciences A
- MA 231 Calculus for Life and Management Sciences B
The minor program consists of the successful completion with a grade
of 'C-' or better in all 15 hours selected from the Mathematics Department's
list of approved courses. The list includes MA 225 Foundations of Advanced
Mathematics as well as any MA courses at the 300, 400 and 500 levels.

Admissions

Admissions
To be admitted into the minor in Mathematics program, the student must
have completed one of the two basic calculus sequences, (MA 141, MA
241, & MA 242) or (MA 131 & MA 231), with a grade of 'C' or
better in each course. Students should contact Jeff Scroggs, adviser
for the minor, to discuss their interest in the minor. The Mathematics
Minor application is available for download.
Certification
Dr. Scroggs will certify the minor prior to graduation. The minor must
be completed no later than the semester in which the student expects
to graduate from his or her degree program. Paperwork for certification
should be completed no later than during the registration period for
the student's final semester at NC State.
