It is crucial that you keep your virus definitions and software updated as soon as new versions become available. No antivirus program can protect you unless you do this. The easiest way to keep everything current is to install the managed version of Symantec AntiVirus provided by NC State and allow its LiveUpdate feature to work automatically.
Some users may need to update virus definitions manually, because of slow network connections, software restrictions, or other reasons. If you must run LiveUpdate manually, make sure that you keep track of the date your virus definitions were issued. How can I tell if my definitions are out of date?
