Virus Definitions Date

If you've downloaded and installed the managed version of Symantec AntiVirus from NC State, your virus definitions should be updating automatically. Here's how to check the date of your virus definitions file to verify that this is happening:

  1. Double click on the yellow Symantec AntiVirus shield in your system tray.
    icon in system tray
  2. In the window that opens, look in the Virus Definition File section. Your file date is the first part of the designation that follows the word Version. Below is a screenshot of this window as it appears in Symantec AntiVirus 9.

  3. If this date is more than a week old, there may be a problem with your virus definitions. Try running a repair to see if the problem can be corrected.
