What’s with all the green
flamingos???
Campus Arts Council (CAC) has been flocking NC State with lime
green flamingos throughout the month of November.
Why green flamingos?
We wanted to grab students’ attention with a fun, kitschy,
approachable object that all students could appreciate. Lawn flamingos
are an easily recognized shape and a symbol of whimsy. CAC decided
to use this symbol to bring attention to the arts on campus. ARTS
NC STATE has so much to offer ALL students (not just the ‘artsy’ people).
Whether you’ve been involved in the arts since you were a
little kid, or you’re just curious and have always wanted
to try something new, there’s LOTS of ways to get involved.
But I’m not really one of those ‘artsy’ people.
You don’t have to be ‘artsy’ to be involved.
In fact, participation in the arts requires a certain interdisciplinary
sensibility—an area in which NC State students excel. Some
of the biggest stars to grace the stage in University Theatre have
been engineering and biochemistry majors. The Crafts Center attracts
students from all areas of study: design,
agriculture, English, you name it. Our annual Student Art Purchase
draws entries from students who you might never guess had a knack
with a paintbrush. In short, the arts are for YOU…whoever
you are, whatever your major, for all levels of interest and ability!
Okay, how do I get involved?
ARTS NC STATE consists of six acclaimed
programs: The Crafts Center, Dance
Program, Gregg Museum of Art & Design,
Department of Music, University
Theatre, and Center
Stage. You
can contact the programs through their websites by email, phone,
or just by stopping by the offices. In addition, this year marked
the opening of the Arts
Village, the newest Living and Learning
Village at NC State. Located in Turlington Hall, the Arts Village
is the place to be to live with other students interested in
the arts.
Not sure exactly where you’d fit,
but want more information? Contact the NCSU Arts Outreach office
by email at: artsncstate@ncsu.edu,
call at 513-3052, or stop by! We are located in room 3122 on the
3rd floor of Talley Student Center and would love to answer any
questions you might have and share information with you.
You can also stop by one of the Campus
Arts Council meetings. CAC is the student-run organization that
raises awareness for the arts on campus and advocates for students.
We’d love to meet
you! For more information, contact the CAC president, Meghan Witzke,
at mmwitzke@ncsu.edu
We hope you’ll join us for one
of the many arts events at NC State!
