Academic Advising

Track: All FYC FR Student-Athletes
Type: Ongoing
Method: ACT Survey of Academic Advising
Completion: Each April in USC 102C
Providing academic advising for freshmen student-athletes at a satisfaction level of 4.0 ("Satisfied") or above in the following areas:

  • "My Academic Progress"
  • "Scheduling/Registration Procedures"
  • "Selecting/ Changing My Major Area of Study"
  • "Obtaining Remdial/Tutorial Assistance"
  • "Coping With Academic Difficulties"

Academic Advising

Track: All Student-Athletes
Type: Ongoing
Method: Student-Athlete Academic Support Evaluation
Completion: Having scores averaging "Agree" (4.0 points on a 5 point scale) for the following questions:

  • My academic advisor is helpful with pre-registration and registration for class.
  • My academic coordinator knows the NCAA regulations regarding my academic eligibility.
  • My academic coordinator is available to schedule meetings with me.
  • My academic coordinator knows the academic requirements for my major.

Retention of Student-Athletes

Track: All Scholarship Student-Athletes
Type: Ongoing
Method: NCAA Academic Performance Rate
Completion: 6 weeks after the start of each term

Having 100% of all athletic teams at the Academic Progress Rate cut score plus the upper confidence boundary for each academic year.

Placement in Major

Track: All Student-Athletes
Type: Ongoing
Method: NCAA Continuing Eligibility Certification
Completion: Prior to the beginning of each student-athlete's 5 th semester of full time enrollment

At the beginning of their 5 th semester of enrollment, 95% of student-athletes have matriculated in their majors.

Decidedness of Major

Track: All FYC Freshmen Student-Athletes
Type: Ongoing
Method: Plan of Work
Completion: USC 102C

By the end of the second semester, every FYC freshmen student-athlete will identify one major into which he or she plans to matriculate and develop an approved four semester Plan of Work for that major

Certification of Eligibility

Track: All Freshmen Student-Athletes
Type: Ongoing
Method: NCAA Continuing Eligibility Certification
Completion:Certifying 95% of student-athletes as eligible for participation in their seasons of competition.

Freshmen Student-Athlete Integrity

Track: All Freshmen Student-Athletes
Type: Ongoing
Method: Cheating Questionnaire
Completion: Each December in USC 101C

Having 90% of first year students earn 80% or higher on an instrument designed to measure level of knowledge about what constitutes cheating.

Tutoring Program

Track: All ASPSA Tutors
Type: Ongoing
Method: Self Assessment, Academic Coordinator Assessment, Student-Athlete Assessment
Completion: By The End of Each Term

The student-athletes and academic coordinators will evaluate the tutors who worked with them each semester to find weaknesses, strengths, and other ways to make the program better.

PAC Program

Track: PAC Learning Specialists
Type: Ongoing
Method: Student-Athlete Survey
Completion: By the End of Each Term

The student-athletes who participate in the PAC Program complete a survey evaluating the learning specialists who worked with them during the semester. How effective were they? Did the students benefit from participating in the program.

PAC Program

Track: Student-Athletes Academic Skills
Type: Ongoing
Method: Learning Specialists Survey
Completion: At the beginning of each term and at the end of each term

The Learning Specialists subjectively evaluate where they feel their student-athletes are in reading, writing, note taking, etc at the beginning and at the end of each semester to see if there is any improvement.
