Some information about Academic Support for Student Athletes at NC State

The Academic Support Program for Student Athletes (ASPSA) is a component of the Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs. This program provides academic and personal assistance for student athletes. Although the department is housed under the Division of Undergraduate Academic Programs, it is mainly funded by the Athletics Department. The Executive Director of ASPSA, Philip Moses serves as liaison between the Athletic Director and the Provost. The objective of ASPSA is to have student athletes achieve their academic potential while at North Carolina State University.

ASPSA is part of the most visible and successful partnerships on the NC State campus. The world of intercollegiate athletics and its participants bring a great deal of visibility and interest to the program.

The ASPSA works closely with the Faculty Athletic Representative and the faculty members of the Council on Athletics to perform the academic eligibility review process for student athletes. This task is of great importance to ensure that student athletes have met all academic eligibility requirements before they are allowed to continue participating.

The ASPSA office is comprised of 13 EPA positions (Executive Director, Director, Assistant Director, ASEP Coordinator, LAN Administrator and six Academic Coordinators), two SPA positions (Program Assistant and Office Assistant) and over 70 temporary employees.

Executive Director Philip Moses is a nationally respected figure in the field of academic support. He is a past president of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletes (N4A).
