Leadership conference Spring 2009
Conference grows and move to the McKimmon Center
The Academic Support Program for Student-Athletes (ASPSA) in partnership with NCSU Department of Athletics Student-Athlete Development Office, and Wake County Schools hosted the 2009 Spring Middle School Leadership Conference at the McKimmon Center on NC State's Campus. A total of 90 middle school students participated representing the following schools: Leesville, Fuquay-Varina, Wake Forest-Rolesville, East Wake, East Garner, Wakefield, Dillard Drive, West Millbrook, Cary, and Daniels. NC State students facilitated hands-on activity sessions using the Wake County Character traits of kindness, good judgement, courage, and integrity. The NC State students that provided leadership for the conference included, Jenae Harrington, Nina Scott-Emuakpor, Bona Jones, Anna Gillespie, Taryn Shelley, Sarah Merritt, Hess Ward, Tia Bell, Brittany Strachan, Nadia Aboulhosn, Brenda Stanton, Ashley Young, Kwame Boatwright, Allan-Michael Cash, and Nakitta Gartrell. ASPSA strives to create and support an innovative learning environment that stresses mastery of fundamentals, intellectual discipline, creativity, problem solving, independence, and responsibility. NC State students an opportunity to engage in such a learning environment through participation in The Middle School Leadership Conference. The conference is hosted on NC State's campus every fall and spring semester.
