What
have we learned about our program through engaging in the assessment
process?
The
web-based Co-op application system electronically submits students'
resumes for review by employers. This process has proven to be an
efficient method for disseminating student credentials. However,
a review of feedback from past and present Co-op participants revealed
a potential point of student angst. Some students contended that
a resume alone was inadequate for conveying significant intangibles.
As a consequence, the potential existed for good candidates to be
screened out early from interview consideration. Students possessing
lower grade point averages expressed this concern more frequently.
These students felt that their case would be best served by direct
interaction with potential employers before interview schedules
are set.
What
have we improved in our program through engaging in the assessment
process?
The decision
was made to host a series of campus events which would allow student
access to employers before decisions were made regarding interview
schedules. These events included the Co-op Job Fair, Co-op Graduate
Job Fair, and Co-op Corporate Days.
What
policy changes have we made as a result of engaging in the assessment
process?
These
events have been permanently added to the Co-op calendar.
Observation
2
What
have we learned about our program through engaging in the assessment
process?
Feedback
on the Co-op work experience has been overwhelming positive from
students and employers alike. However, concerns have surfaced from
both groups regarding the hesitancy of first rotation students to
fully engage their work environment.
What
have we improved in our program through engaging in the assessment
process?
More
time was allocated during the mandatory Co-op Transition Seminar
for presentations by employer representatives and Co-op Ambassadors.
Both were asked to focus their discussions on effective strategies
for assimilating into corporate/ workplace culture. More attention
was given this area of concern during Co-op coordinator contact
with first rotation students.
What
policy changes have we made as a result of engaging in the assessment
process?
Participation
in these sessions was made mandatory for all seminar attendees.
