Symposium History and Mission
The NC State Undergraduate Assessment Symposium provided a forum for higher education professionals to exchange ideas, discover new practices and form partnerships to enhance the full undergraduate educational experience through assessment. The Symposium was designed to address both practical concerns and larger policy issues by providing attendees with ideas and tools that could be immediately shared and implemented at their home institutions, which ranged from community colleges to large research universities.

Since the first Symposium in 2003, speakers have included Peggy Maki, Peter Ewell, Marilee Bresciani, Trudy Banta, Amy Driscoll, Barbara Walvoord, and Arthur Levine, as well as a range of other well-known experts in assessment and higher education. Symposium presentations have targeted all aspects of assessment, catering to both beginners and seasoned assessment practitioners.

One unique aspect of the Symposium was its accessibility for non-assessment professionals. Presentation tracks and topics consistently reached out to faculty and student affairs professionals; as with 2009's theme, "Aligning Pedagogy, Curriculum and Assessment," a goal of the Symposium has been to integrate the ideas of assessment into a wider, more diverse audience.
