Biomathematics seminar Tuesday 10/9/07 Speaker: Venita Depuy Title: Population-based Streptococcus pneumoniae modeling Abstract: Streptococcus pneumoniae is the leading bacterial cause of pneumonia, and can also cause severe infections in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid. S. pneumoniae are of particular concern in young children and the elderly. We will briefly review SIS and SIRS epidemilogical models, and discuss joint models of two bacteria strains with the presence of vaccine against one strain.
