Flu Shots Available in November

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the State Health Plan are joining forces again this year to offer free flu shots to members, dependents and retirees of the State Health Plan and any other plan administered by BCBSNC.

Vaccinations will be available 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in the College of Textiles Convocation Room and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in the Talley Grand Ballroom. To help ensure that there are enough nurses and staff on hand, please register online. Then, simply present your SHP ID card and picture ID when you arrive for your flu shot.

Vaccinations are available for $30 to those who are not covered by the State Health Plan or another BCBSNC plan. The contracted flu shot provider (Maxim Healthcare Services) will accept cash, checks or Medicare Part B (no co-pay required).

Children must be at least 9, and those between the ages of 9 and 17 must have a parent/guardian present. Pregnant women in the first trimester must have a prescription to receive the flu shot; women in their second or third trimester may receive the flu vaccination without a prescription.

If you have any concerns about the side effects of the flu vaccine or whether you should take the shot, consult your physician or visit www.maximflu.com or http://www.cdc.gov/flu.
