Taking Art to the Streets
By Dave Pond, Web Communication
A pair of creative-minded NC State faculty members has been given a mobile platform to help make sitting in rush-hour traffic a little more tolerable for the rest of us.
Artwork created by professors Patrick FitzGerald (Art + Design) and Robert Schrag (Communication) was selected to be a part of the City of Raleigh's "Art-On-The-Move" campaign, a public art project that highlights the work of local artists on the sides of Capital Area Transit (CAT) buses traveling through the city.
"One of the Arts Commission's key goals is to increase opportunities for Raleigh citizens to engage in the arts – and definitely, Art-On-The-Move will help accomplish this," City of Raleigh Arts Commission chair Brian Starkey said.
The buses, which began rolling out in late September, feature the work of 12 artists, all of whom work, live or attend school in Raleigh. Their artwork will be placed on the side of CAT buses for up to one year.
