Faculty and Staff Invited to Chancellor Search Forums

Bob Jordan
Search committee chair Bob Jordan invites faculty, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders to public forums Wednesday, Aug. 26.

Bob Jordan, chair of the chancellor search committee, invites faculty and staff to give their input on Wednesday, Aug. 26, during open forums.

The search committee, which includes board members, faculty, staff, students, alumni and others, represents a broad cross section of the NC State community and includes people with a deep knowledge and understanding of the university, Jordan said in a written invitation for faculty, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders.

“Assembling such a strong, representative committee is an essential step in finding a great leader,” Jordan wrote. “It is equally important to give as many people as possible an opportunity to voice their perspectives and ideas.”

Sessions for staff, faculty and students will be held in the Talley Student Center's Stewart Theatre. While times are designated for specific groups, all sessions are open to anyone who wishes to attend.

  • 12:30 p.m. – Staff
  • 2 p.m. – Faculty
  • 3:30 p.m. – Undergraduate, graduate and professional students

Another forum for alumni, local elected officials and local residents is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the Jane S. McKimmon Center.

FCC Rules Now Require You to Confirm WolfAlert Registration

Due to new regulatory requirements, everyone who has registered to receive emergency text messages from NC State will soon receive a confirmation text message, most likely in the next two weeks (tentatively scheduled to be sent on Wednesday, Aug. 26). The text message will ask you to confirm that you want to receive emergency text messages from the university.

To confirm enrollment, reply START NCSU to the text message. You will receive a confirming message when your enrollment is successful.

While registration for the text message service is free, registrants are subject to fees charged by their cell phone providers. NC State will not sell cell phone numbers and will only send messages to test the system or in the event of an emergency.

More information concerning emergency text messages and other WolfAlert emergency notification systems can be found on the NC State Emergency Information page at http://ncsu.edu/emergency-information/index.php. If you have any questions about confirming your enrollment, contact Emergency Manager Todd Becker at emergencymanagement@ncsu.edu.

Mortgage Help Available for State Employees

State employees who are having problems making their house payments may be able to qualify for mortgage assistance through the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU), Gov. Bev Perdue’s office announced this week.

SECU’s Mortgage Assistance Program offers a number of options to help employees stay in their homes, including refinancing, deferring payments and making partial payments. SECU encourages employees to talk with them about options that will meet their individual needs. As a guarantee, SECU will grant at least a 30-day loan extension to members who meet with an SECU representative.

You must be a member of the credit union to take advantage of these resources, but you may join SECU at any time.

Mariner’s Menu Serves up Seafood Ideas

Mariner's Menu, a blog based on seafood education specialist Joyce Taylor's popular book of the same name, offers a fresh way to get kitchen-tested seafood recipes, learn about local fisheries and traditions, and receive safety, handling and preparation tips.

People who are eating healthier are including more seafood in their diets, says contributor Barry Nash, seafood technology and marketing specialist with Sea Grant. And with the struggling economy, consumers are eating more meals at home. Other contributors include Dave Green, extension seafood specialist and director of the NC State Seafood Laboratory, and Pam Morris, president of Carteret Catch. Agency Commends, Accredits CVM

The College of Veterinary Medicine received commendation and full accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) following a recent site visit.

In a letter to Dr. Rick Fish, director of the CVM Laboratory Animal Resources unit, Dr. John Bradfield, president of the AAALAC Council on Accreditation, wrote: “Especially noteworthy were the highly trained and dedicated staff of veterinarians, veterinarian technicians, students, and caretakers; the excellent environmental enrichment program for all mammals; an outstanding veterinary medical care program for identification of potential animal health issues and their treatment; and the exceptional sanitation program.”

AAALAC International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs.
