Diversity Film Series

The Staff Senate Diversity Committee is hosting a Diversity Film Series for the campus community through June, featuring diversity-related documentary films, followed by facilitated discussions. The first film in the series, "What's Race Got to Do With It," chronicles the journey of a diverse group of students participating in a 15-week dialogue program at U.C. Berkeley. The program, including discussion, will take place from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, in Room 313 of the Monteith Engineering Research Center on Centennial Campus.

Campus Rec Launches Employee Wellness Program

Worried about the rising costs of healthcare? Concerned about your BMI and what it means for insurance hikes? Campus Recreation can help. Pack Wellness is an employee wellness program designed just for you. This 12-week program offers weekly exercise and a number of health screenings that are all facilitated by national certified instructors and personal trainers, including BMI, waist to hip ratio, body fat, and blood pressure evaluations. Also included in the program is a weekly food diary analysis and information on multiple wellness topics.

The program starts Feb. 2. Participants must be a Carmichael Complex Member. Cost of the program is $60. Visit the fitness suite on the second floor of the Carmichael Recreation Center for details.

Human Singularity

The Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies invites you to a talk on human singularity by philosophy professor Gary L. Comstock at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4, in Withers Hall, Room 344. All are welcome.

Women Making Strides

Dr. Shawn Ladda, president of the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport, will give the keynote speech, "From High Heels to Sneakers: Women Making Strides in Sport," during NC State’s Sisterhood Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Talley Student Center ballroom. Faculty, staff, students and community members are invited to attend the event, which is  sponsored by the Council on the Status of Women, NC State Women's Center and Office for Diversity and Inclusion. Friday is the deadline to reserve tickets, which cost $20.

Wood Turners and Carvers at Gregg

The Gregg Museum of Art & Design features a reception and lecture by guest curator and noted wood artist Dale Nish from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4. Nish has selected objects from active members of the North Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Woodturners for an exhibit that runs through May 15. The Gregg Museum is located in the Talley Student Center.

College of Management Career Fair

The College of Management career fair, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 4, is an excellent way for employers to connect with undergraduate students majoring in business administration, accounting, and economics, as well as graduate students from our MBA, MAC, and economics programs. College of Textiles Open House

Tour the textiles labs and watch demonstrations related to textile engineering,  polymer and color chemistry, fashion and more during the College of Textiles Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6.  The event is free and no preregistration is required.  For more information, visit the open house page.

25th Annual Emerging Issues Forum

This year's Emerging Issues Forum, scheduled for Feb. 8-9, will focus on creativity and how North Carolina must unleash the power of its creative assets to drive economic growth and social advancement in these extraordinary times. Learn more and register at http://www.emergingissues.org.

Faces and Mazes

The Gregg Museum of Art & Design presents an exhibition titled, "Faces and Mazes" through May 15. The exhibit features artist Lia Cook's most recent series of weavings, created by using an electronic Jacquard hand loom to weave faces that dissolve into continuously changing maze-like patterns. This traveling exhibit is curated by Wendy Weiss and organized by the Rober Hillestad Textiles Gallery at the University of Nebraska. 

Run/Walk Club

Start the new year on the right foot, then the left, then the right, and then pick up the pace. If you would like to walk, jog, run or a little of all three with a group of folks just like yourself, come out on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11:45 a.m. to run/jog/walk around Centennial Campus. All levels are encouraged to participate. No one gets left behind. Meet at the corner of Varsity Drive and Main Campus Drive, nearest to the Venture III Building.
