Kid's Café
The Kids’ Café is an organization that serves low-income children in our community who have been identified as students in need of additional educational support. Many students speak English as a second language. In addition to eliminating educational disparities in our community, the program also focuses on the importance of nutrition and healthy meals. Students are provided transportation to and from the Kids’ Café twice a week. With guidance from the Kids’ Café coordinator, a group of dedicated volunteers help the children with their homework, projects and meeting their educational goals. Additionally, Caldwells are organizing enrichment activities for the students, including a field trip to NCSU to show case some of the opportunities college offers. Caldwell Fellows makes up a significant portion of the Kids’ Café volunteers.
Agencies like the Kids’ Café are truly making a difference in the lives of many children in our community. Without volunteers, however, the agency would not be able to offer this positive support. Our shared experiencesas Kids’ Café volunteers have evolved into an asset of the Caldwell Fellows Program as an opportunity to promote social change and give back to our community. Through this service learning process, we have grown personally and as servant leaders- exemplifying the pillars of the Caldwell Fellows Program. Currently, we are working to help secure volunteers for the spring at the Kids’ Café.
