IM Sports Point Manual

Section I.  General Rules and Eligibility

Units of Participation

Organizations will be divided into the following divisions/units for all point activities, with an overall point champion in each unit:

      • Fraternity
      • Men’s Residence
      • Residence/Sorority (Res/Sor)

All Fraternities will compete for the President’s Cup (Overall Champion)

Fraternities with 49 or less members will be eligible to win the Sportsman Cup.  A fraternity from    this division may win both cups.

Overall champions are the organizations with the highest point total for each division/unit at the conclusion of the academic year per division.

Eligibility

  • Fraternity and Sorority participants must be active members of the Interfraternity Council, Pan-Hellenic Association, or Panhellenic Association.
 
  • Residence Hall participants must live within the hall for which they are participating.
 
  • All participants must be currently enrolled on the campus of NC State and hold a valid NC State All-Campus Card.  Students enrolled in noncredit courses and/or correspondence courses are not regularly enrolled students and are ineligible for Campus Recreation Participation. 
 
  • The Assistant Director and Coordinator of Intramural Sports will handle all exceptions to the above stated guidelines on an individual basis.
 
  • Participants may only play in one division/unit and on one team for all intramural sports, except for co-recreational activities.  However, a participant is allowed to play both singles and doubles in all minor sports.  For example:  a fraternity participant in tennis is allowed to play both singles and doubles for their fraternity, but cannot play open division tennis, etc. 
 
  • Please see the Intramural Sports Handbook for guidelines pertaining to Eligibility Protests.  Participants representing Greek organizations will have their affiliation verified by the Department of Greek Life.  Participants representing Residence Halls will have their Residence Hall affiliation verified by Residence Life and Housing
 
  • Rosters and entry forms generated by each individual organization/team and maintained in the Campus Recreation Office will be used to verify a participant’s status pertaining to eligibility.

*Athletic Directors and team managers are responsible for knowing and following all Intramural Sports Governing Rules.

General Scoring

    • Organizations earn points based on participation, wins and final place points. (Please see Team Sports, Individual/Dual Sports and Special Events sections for specific point values.
     
    • Teams and individuals will be awarded appropriate points for wins due to forfeits or defaults.
     
    • Points will be awarded to teams and individuals for “byes” in tournament play.  The win point total for that activity will be awarded provided the team receiving the “bye” wins its first game.
     
    • Win points per game will be awarded in tournament play up to the championship game (only place points will be given for championship games).

Forfeits

The first forfeit in any team sport activity will result in the loss of one-half of the participation points.

The second forfeit in any team sport activity will result in the team being dropped from further competition, no participation points awarded and the loss of one-half of the total points earned in the team sport activity to that point.

One forfeit in an Individual/Dual Sport or Special Event will result in being dropped from further competition, no participation points awarded and the loss of one-half of the total points earned in the event to that point.

Teams or individuals advancing as a result of a forfeit or double forfeit will receive appropriate points for the win.

Schedules

Schedules will be posted in the Campus Recreation Office and on the Campus Recreation Website

Section II.  Team Sports

4-on-4 Flag Football, Basketball, Bowling, Flag Football, Soccer, Softball, and Volleyball

Number of Teams

Organizations will follow these guidelines for entering teams:

  • Fraternity – Two (2) teams (EXCEPTION: One (1) team only in Soccer and 4-on-4 Flag Football)
      • Men’s Residence* – unlimited number of teams
      • Res/Sor* – unlimited number of teams
                        

*Only the top finishing team per sport will receive points towards the overall championship. Organizations will receive 20 bonus participation points for entering a second team, provided that team completes the season.

    

Rosters

Athletic Directors/Team Managers will complete rosters during the on-line registration period (the minimum number needed to play the sport will be required at this time).

Roster additions will only be permitted in the Campus Recreation Office between 8am – 1pm or 2pm - close.  The All-Campus Card of the participant wishing to be added to a team roster must be presented in the office at the time of the addition.  Participants/teams may not call/email the office to make roster additions or add players at the game site.

Roster additions must be made by 1:00pm the day of the scheduled activity in order to be eligible for that night’s play.  The potential participant will be determined ineligible if his/her name is not entered on the official roster by the appropriate time, and a forfeit may be issued to the offending team.

All roster changes must be made by 1:00 pm the day of your last scheduled regular season game.  No roster additions will be allowed during the playoffs.

Scoring

Participation Points

  • Fraternity – 100 points per team
  • Men’s Residence, Res/Sor – 100 points (20 bonus points for entering any team that completes the season)

Win Points

    • Regular Season Win – 5 points
    • Playoff Win – 10 points
    • BOWLING ONLY: The team with the highest total pins per week will receive 5 points.
 

Final Team Place Points

    • 1st Place – 50 points
    • 2nd Place – 40 points
    • 3rd Place – 30 points
    • 4th Place – 30 points

Section III.  Individual/Dual Sports

Badminton, Racquetball, Table Tennis, Tennis

Format

  • Each activity consists of a single-elimination tournament with a random draw to determine pairings.

Number of Individuals or Doubles Teams

Organizations will follow these guidelines for entering teams:

  • Singles – Two (2) individuals
  • Doubles – Two (2) teams

*Individuals will be allowed to play both singles and doubles.

Entry Forms/Rosters

Athletic Directors/participants will submit an Individual/Dual Sports Entry Form during the registration period via the on-line registration module or in RM 1000 Carmichael Gym.

Organizations may make one (1) substitution per participant.  Once a player has participated they cannot be substituted.

If a match had been scheduled prior to the substitution, the substitute must play at the previously scheduled time unless their opponent is willing to change playing times.

Once a player participates for an organization, they may not be replaced for the remainder of the tournament.  This includes a win by forfeit

Players already on the bracket will not be able to move to another spot on the bracket.

Scheduling

  • Opponents in each round of the tournament will schedule their own matches.
  • Each round of the tournament will have a play-by date.  All matches for the round must be played by that date or both opponents will forfeit out of the tournament

Scoring

Participation Points

  • 10 points per individual
  • 20 points per doubles team

Win Points

  • Win – 5 points

Final Place Points

  • 1st Place – 20 points
  • 2nd Place – 15 points
  • 3rd Place – 10 points
  • 4th Place – 10 points

Section IV.  Special Events

Basketball Shooting Challenge, Golf (S & D), Dodgeball, Punt, Pass, & Kick, Quickball (Diamond Derby & 4 on 4), Turkey Trot, Ultimate Tournament

Entries/Rosters

Athletic Directors/Team Managers will submit a Special Events Entry Form during the registration period via the on-line registration module or in RM 1000 Carmichael Gym.  Some events will also have on-site registration, this information can be found on the Campus Recreation website.

Substitutions can be made prior to the event starting.  Times and locations for substitutions will be available in the Campus Recreation Office or on the Campus Recreation website.

No additions will be accepted after the registration period has closed.

Note: Team Place Points for all special event activities, except quickball, will be determined after event points and prior to participation points being awarded.

     

Basketball Shooting Challenge, Golf (S& D), Punt, Pass, & Kick, Turkey Trot

Organizations may enter as many individuals as they wish.

Scoring

  • Only the TOP FOUR (4) Individuals (or four doubles teams in golf) for any organization are eligible to earn points.  Individuals below four are NOT eligible for points and they do not prevent participants from receiving points.

Participation Points

  • 8 to 10 participants – 40 points
    • 5 to 7 participants – 30 points
    • 2 to 4 participants – 20 points
    • 1 participant – 10 points

Place Points

  • 1st Place – 20 points
  • 2nd Place – 15 points
  • 3rd Place – 12 points
  • 4th Place – 10 points
  • 5th – 10th Place – 8 points
    • 11th – 20th Place – 6 points
    • 21st – 30th Place – 4 points
    • Over 30th Place – 2 points

Individual Points (Basketball Shooting Challenge and Punt, Pass, & Kick) – five (5) bonus points will be given to the organization with the top participant in each event.

Quickball Diamond Derby

    • Each organization may enter one (1) team
    • Rosters will be limited to 4 participants.

Scoring

  • Participation Points – 30 points

NOTE: Teams advancing to subsequent rounds will earn an additional 5 points for each round.

     
    • Win Points
      • Win – 5 points (based on the Single Elimination Round ONLY)
      • Place Points – See Special Events Section 2.2.

Quickball 4-on-4 and Dodgeball

  • Each organization may enter one (1) team.
  • Rosters will be limited to six participants.

Scoring

  • Participation Points – 30 points

Win Points

  • Winners Bracket Win – 5 points
  • Losers Bracket Win – 2 points

Team Place Points

  • 1st Place – 20 points
  • 2nd Place – 15 points

                  

  NOTE: No 3rd and 4th place points will be awarded.

Ultimate Tournament

Each organization may enter one (1) team.

Rosters will be of unlimited length.

Scoring

  • Participation Points – 30 points

Win Points

  • Win – 5 points per pool play or playoff win

Team Place Points

      • 1st place – 20 points
      • 2nd place – 15 points
      • 3rd place – 10 points
      • 4th place – 10 points

Section V.  Awards

The Intramural Sports Awards Program is held annually at the end of the spring semester.  All participants are invited to attend.  Awards are given in the following categories:

  • Overall Point Champions
    • Residence
    • Residence/Sorority
    • Fraternity President’s
