Rules and Regulations for Recreational Use

  1. Participants may not enter the pools without a certified, NC State lifeguard on duty.
  2. Adults should not swim alone.
  3. Please shower using warm water and soap before entering the pools.
  4. For the protection of everyone, the pools will close during a thunder or lightning storm. They will re-open thirty minutes after the last occurrence of either thunder or lightning.
  5. Appropriate swimming attire (swimsuit) must be worn. Gym shorts, sports bras, cut-offs, etc. are prohibited. A clean t-shirt may be worn to cover the upper body if desired.
  6. Chewing gum, food, glass containers and pets are prohibited around pools.
  7. Diving, running on the decks, pushing and other horseplay in or around the pools is prohibited.
  8. Participants are prohibited from hanging on the lane lines.
  9. Use of diving boards is prohibited during recreational swimming.
  10. Hyperventilation and underwater breath-holding activities are prohibited.
  11. Kickboards, pull buoys, dumbbells, wet belts, etc. are for exercise only and are not intended to be used as floatation devices.
  12. In lanes with two or more people, lap swimmers shall circle swim in a counter-clockwise direction.

Children's Swim

  1. Designated hours for Children's Swim are established for the year and are available by contacting the lifeguards on-duty or here.
  2. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. One adult must be present for each child entering the complex. Children over the age of four are not permitted in the locker room of the opposite sex. Family changing rooms are available.
  3. A parent must directly supervise children younger than 12 years of age and all children unable to swim at least 50 yards without stopping. The parent must be in the water with the child and be able to immediately reach the child. Parents are not to swim laps while they are with their children in the pool.
  4. Children are to be supervised at all times and under no circumstances are children to be left unattended.
  5. Balls, toys, etc. are not allowed in the pool unless the activity is part of an instructional program sponsored by Carmichael Complex.
  6. Coast Guard approved life jackets that fit and have both chest and crotch straps are the only flotation devices that may be worn if approved by the Pool Manager on duty.
