The Center for Excellence in Curricular Engagement brings faculty, students, and community members together to design and conduct academically-grounded work in the community. The goal of such service-learning efforts is to connect academic knowledge and community knowledge in the search for solutions to the challenges of the 21 st century while developing the capacity of everyone involved to learn, serve, and lead. Students become better critical thinkers, they take responsibility for their own and other’s learning, and they experience their own power as citizens and leaders.

Through the Center every student and faculty member at NC State has the opportunity to participate in significant service-learning projects. Many conduct research
in partnership with communities locally, across the state, and around the world; co-create
with community members new programs aimed at raising quality of life for all; address difficult issues in public education, environmental health, and community development; change the face of teaching and learning across campus and beyond, by creating and sharing new models for community based, experiential education.
