Welcome to the Center for Excellence in Curricular Engagement
The Center for Excellence in Curricular Engagement builds capacity for and generates scholarship on community-engaged teaching and learning.
Primarily focused on faculty development, curricular development, and scholarship, the Center brings students, faculty, and community members together to design and conduct academically-grounded work in the community. Such service-learning efforts connect knowledge and experience from multiple sources in order to understand and resolve contemporary challenges while developing the capacity of everyone involved to learn, serve, and lead.
NC State’s vision is that every student and faculty member should have the opportunity to participate in significant, high quality collaboration with community members that has meaningful impacts on the campus and the broader community; and its commitment is to support and challenge them in such efforts to combine learning and leadership. The Center builds the capacity of individuals, programs, academic units, the university, partner institutions, and the field of education as a whole to collaborate in this important work in scholarly ways.
The Center’s work is grounded in the conviction that the university is not only a place of preparation for the future but is the “real world.” Students, faculty, and community partners are changing the face of teaching and learning across campus and beyond … creating effective models for thinking and acting as citizen-scholars … “engaging with the world, now.”
