Choreographer Brian Brooks fuses “minimalist rigor with flamboyant whimsy” (The New Yorker). Brian’s latest whimsy? Spanning the distance from the back of the stage out to the farthest walls of the theatre, over three miles of sky blue cables expand to create a tunnel-like space over both audience and performers for his dance named Motor. Within this vibrant, large-scale installation, dancers wrestle with themselves and one another in an exploration of perpetual motion that amplifies our linear perception of time and experience.
This performance will include Brian Brooks’ hit solo, I'm Going to Explode,
and his new company work,
Pre-show discussion with Laura Colby, 7pm, Walnut Room. A dance graduate of The Juilliard School, Laura Colby is the founder and director of Elsie Management. Based in Brooklyn, Elsie promotes the careers of national and international performing arts companies (including Brian Brooks Moving Company). Laura has been a member of Mark Haim & Dancers, the Limón Dance Company, CoDanceCo, and Seán Curran Company. An avid cyclist, she has ridden thousands of miles for AIDS charities.
